How to make printable Christmas gift tags with clipart
Homemade gift tags take about twenty minutes and a printer. Because transparent PNG clipart has no background, you can drop it on any color or pattern and it looks like it was drawn there.
What you need
- •Your PNG clipart, unzipped
- •Canva (free), Microsoft Word or Google Docs
- •White cardstock — 65 to 110 lb is sturdy enough to hang from a gift
- •Scissors or a paper trimmer, a hole punch, and ribbon or twine
In Canva
- 1Create a design at US Letter size (8.5 × 11 in).
- 2Draw a rectangle 2 × 3.5 in — the size of a business card, and a classic gift tag. Copy it until you have two columns of five: ten tags on a sheet.
- 3Upload your PNGs (Uploads, then Upload files) and drag one onto each tag. Keep the art at least ¼ in from the edges so trimming doesn't clip it.
- 4Add text like “To:” and “From:”, or the person's name. A round, friendly font suits cute clipart.
- 5Download as PDF Print, so the clipart stays sharp.
In Word or Google Docs
- 1Insert a table with 2 columns and 5 rows, and set each cell to 2 in tall and 3.5 in wide.
- 2Click into a cell and insert a PNG (Insert, then Picture or Image).
- 3In Word, set the picture's wrap to In Front of Text so you can move it freely and type beside it.
- 4Add your text, then give the table thin, light gray borders as cutting guides.
Printing
- •Print at Actual size (100%), not Fit to page, so the tags come out exactly 2 × 3.5 in.
- •In the printer settings, choose a cardstock or heavy paper type and the best quality setting.
- •Print one test sheet on plain paper first to check the layout before using cardstock.
- •Matte cardstock is easier to write on with a pen than glossy.
More ideas with the same clipart
- •Folded cards: fold a letter sheet in half for a 5.5 × 8.5 in card, or into quarters for a 4.25 × 5.5 in card that fits an A2 envelope.
- •Treat bag toppers: fold a 4 × 6 in strip over the top of a cellophane bag and staple it shut.
- •Teacher and classmate gifts: make a sheet with each child's name on a tag.
Selling tags you make
With our commercial-use clipart you can sell printed tags and cards. You can't sell the design as a digital download or editable template, since that hands buyers the files themselves.
