Wide ruled or college ruled?
Wide ruled lines are 11/32 of an inch apart, the size most elementary classrooms use, and leave room for bigger handwriting. College ruled is 9/32 of an inch, the spacing in most notebooks from middle school on, so more fits on a page. Narrow ruled, at 1/4 inch, is for small, neat writing.
Keep the red margin line down the left for school work, or turn it off for letters and lists. Add a name and date line at the top for handing in. It's handy when the notebook runs out, for a writing test, or for a letter to Santa that needs to look its best.
